Welcome to the Appalachian Cultural Museum

Gertie the Greeter by Sal KapunanThe Appalachian Cultural Museum, part of Appalachian State University, was created to foster an understanding of the people of the Appalachian Mountains and to serve as a laboratory for new museum ideas. Through exhibits, publications, and special events, the Museum presents the rich traditions of the region. The Museum gives new meaning to life in western North Carolina in a manner that is authentic and non-stereotypical.

Museum Exhibits now closed: Summer fun with the Appalachian Cultural Museum: Bombay Dreams and Charlotte Nights:
Since 1989, we have welcomed visitors to the Appalachian Cultural Museum on University Hall Drive. Because the Museum building is now scheduled for other purposes, the Museum exhibits closed at University Hall on March 11, 2006. More Info Although the Appalachian Cultural Museum exhibits are temporarily closed, this summer we are happy to be able to continue our programs on the campus of ASU, close to downtown Boone. Pre-registration is required for all programs. More Info Join us on July 30th as we head to Charlotte to see the musical "Bombay Dreams" at Belk Theatre, followed by dinner at The Bistro. This dazzling spectacle is set in India's prolific film industry. More Info
The Museum is going to Broadway : Spring in Savannah : Summer Woodworking programs enrolling :
Well, technically Broadway is coming to North Carolina. Four wonderful Broadway shows will be a part of the Appalachian Cultural Museum travel program with Bettie and John Bond, this fall and beyond. All are on Sunday, all are matinees, and all are day trips to Charlotte. More Info The Museum heads to historic Savannah, Georgia from April 3 thru the 6th. Come join us as we enjoy the beauty of Spring in Savannah.

For summer 2006 the Museum is co-sponsoring three woodworking classes scheduled with the Michael R. Patricelli Craft Enrichment Program. Previous experience is not required. More Info
