This orchid is a native of Europe, but it has become established in woods and along roadsides from New Hampshire to Virginia, west to Missouri and Wisconsin. Maybe now it is in Watauga County???

The lip of the flower has the form of a tiny pouch with a triangular or heart-shaped tip that curves underneath the pouch. Flowering time is from June to September.
