Yellow Wild Indigo
Baptisia tinctoria

Picture taken July 18

Both the genus name (Baptisia) and specific epithet (tinctoria) of this plant refer to the fact that it can be used as a source of purple dye, although it is inferior to the true indigo plant. The leaves are stalkless and composed of three leaflets. The pea-like flowers are yellow and bloom from May to September. This plant can be found in dry woods and clearings throughout our area.
