Old Time Mountain Toys

Picture of Caroline Blackburn Demonstrating Folktoys

In this program students get hands-on experience with some of the toys that children enjoyed years ago. Caroline Blackburn grew up playing with toys that her father made for her out of local materials. Among the toys that she will demonstrate are tops, elder branch squirters, whistles, stilts, bull roarers, gee-haw-whimmy-diddles, limberjacks, and climbing bears. Caroline also shares some of her childhood experiences with these toys. She has taught elementary school and early childhood courses. In addition, Caroline has done research with the Appalachian Oral History Project. Grades K-5 particularly enjoy her program.

Cost: $75.00
