Everyday Living for the Cherokee

Picture of Bill and Susie Gingras with Students

From dawn to dusk the daily lives of Native Americans were a family-centered affair that varied little from our present needs of food, shelter, and clothing. How native peoples accomplished this is presented intelligently and comprehensively by Bill and Susie Gingras. Bill, who is Abenaki, and Susie, a Cherokee, present a fascinating program about Native American life before the arrival of white settlers. The dynamic couple shows school children traditional clothing, how to use bone and stone tools as well as demonstrating how to make rope and string, and how to start a fire using friction. The program is filled with hands-on experiences for students as they examine such basic items of everyday life as bowls, gourd utensils, and children's toys. Because of the Gingras's busy schedule this program is usually offered only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Cost: $75.00
