Meet Chuck Watkins, Director

Dr. Charles A. Watkins (a.k.a. "Chuck") is the founding director of the Appalachian Cultural Museum. When he came to Appalachian State University in 1984 he was given a huge empty room and a desk on the first floor of University Hall, and told to turn the place into a museum the University could be proud of. The Cultural Museum is his "baby" (not to be confused with his wife and two daughters).

Before coming to Boone, Chuck was Executive Director of the Erie Historical Museum in Erie, Pennsylvania. He has written for a wide variety of publications, ranging from the National Womens Studies Association Journal to Curator and Museum News to Spur (he is an avid horseman, and advisor to Appalachian State's Equestrian Club and Equestrian Team).
