Meet Shelby Lane

Shelby is another of our fabulous "since-the-beginning" volunteers who has spent much of her time on a mind-boggling variety of tasks at the Museum. Like Kay Bosworth, she has led tours, picked up "a little" housekeeping here and there, and she's helped with our Christmas celebrations over the years. She's been in Boone since 1970. She and her husband, Ernest, left Blacksburg, VA, when he joined the Math faculty. Ernest's job has taken them across the world and back through teaching programs in Canada and China. While Ernest was teaching in Shenyang, Shelby taught as well --- ESL for a year --- before they returned to Boone by way of Beijing, Moscow, and Budapest. Between her travels, Shelby has coordinated retired senior volunteers and the foster grandparents program through Caldwell and she currently sits on the boards of the Hospitality House, the Watauga County Public Library, and the Watauga County Project on Aging.
